2 Bhuapur AL men on fresh remand
A court here yesterday placed two leaders of Bhuapur upazila Awami League (AL) on three days' fresh remand in party leader Rokibul Islam Farid murder case.
They are upazila AL joint convener Taherul Islam Tota and member Nurul Islam, also chairman of Aloa union parishad.
Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court in Tangail granted the fresh remand when they were produced before the court in the morning after expiry of their three days' remand, said complainant's lawyer Ataur Rahman Azad.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Naorin Mahbub gave the order for three days' fresh remand after hearing on the prayer for seven days' remand, he said.
Earlier, Senior Judicial Magistrate Farzana Sultana of the same court granted three days' remand for them against a prayer for ten days on March 15, he added.
The accused have provided important information during the interrogation about the sensational killing and the law enforcers are verifying those, said Ashok Kumar Sinha, investigation officer of the case and also officer-in-charge of Tangail DB police.
The law enforcers arrested the duo from Gulshan in the capital on March 14, DB sources said.
Meanwhile, a faction of Bhuapur upazila AL and people of Farid's village formed a human chain in the court area at noon. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner demanding immediate arrest of other killers.
Farid's throat-slit body was found in a pond at his village Bharoi Modhyapara on December 6.
