A court here yesterday sentenced 16 members of militant outfit “Allahar Dal”, including its chief Matin Mehedi of Gaibandha, to three years imprisonment each in a case filed in 2007.
Judge Abul Mansur Miah of First Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court in Tangail delivered the verdict in presence of all the convicts, said Anwarul Islam, court inspector in Tangail.
The court also fined them Tk 5,000 each, in default, to suffer three months more in jail, he added.

Acting on a tip, a police team from Tangail Police Station raided the house on April 14, 2007, and arrested nine of them from there.
The law enforcers also seized a large number of jihadi books from the house.
The following day, Sub-Inspector Mosharaf Hossain of Tangail Police Station filed a case against them under the Special Powers Act with the police station.
Later police filed charge sheet against them and six others of the same outfit including its chief Mehedi.
Except Mehedi, who was already serving jail term in another case, the 15 other accused were in bail.
