14 years' RI for JMB man
A court here yesterday awarded 14 years' rigorous imprisonment to a member of banned militant organisation Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) under the Arms Act and Anti-terrorism Act.
Judge of Special Tribunal-2, also Additional District Judge of Chapainawabganj, Ziaur Rahman handed down the verdict in presence of the JMB man.
The convict is Abdur Rakib alias Sumon, 28, son of Aftab Hossain of Shamjola village in Shibganj upazila.
According to the prosecution, police raided Bismillah Store in Kansat Bazar and arrested Sumon from there on June 17, 2009. Police seized a firearm and three bullets from the shop.
Sub-Inspector Mizanur Rahman of Shibganj Police Station filed a case against Sumon under the Arms and Anti-terrorism Acts with the police station that day.
On completion of investigation, police placed charge sheet against him on July 8, 2009.
The court handed down the verdict after examining the prosecution witnesses and relevant documents.
