12 Sundarbans-based robbers surrender
Twelve members of infamous Sundarbans-based robber gang 'Naya Bahini,' including its ringleader, surrendered to the home minister in Kalapara upazila of the district yesterday.
Welcoming the gang's decision to go back to normal life by giving up robbery, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at the function said he would suggest the government to rehabilitate them.
Major Adnan Kabir, deputy commander of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-8), was also present on the occasion.
All members formally surrendered with 25 arms and 1,105 bullets at Kuakata Rakhaine women's market ground in the upazila around 1:00pm, said the major.
The 12-member gang surrendered to the law enforcers as Rab continued its drives in different coastal areas, including the Sunderbans, he said.
The robbers are Baki Billah alias Naya Mia, 37, ringleader of the gang, Monirul Sheikh, 38, Manjur Mollah alias Ranga, 42, Md Mukta Sheikh, 37, Md Tariqul Sheikh, 60, Md Akbar Sheikh, 42, Md Kibria Morol, 40, Md Jahangir Sheikh alias Mejo Bhai, 48, Md Eunus Sheikh alias Dulal Tagore, 40, Md Miladul Mollah alias Kalu, 28, Mosharraf Hossain, 37, and Al- Amin Shikder, 50. They hail from different areas of Satkhira and Bagerhat.
Sixty members of seven robber gangs surrendered to the law enforcement agencies with 139 arms and 8,123 bullets last year, said Rab sources.
