105 assistant AGs appointed
The government has appointed 105 Supreme Court lawyers as new assistant attorney general for dealing cases on behalf of the state before the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court.
The law ministry today issued a notification to this effect saying that their appointment will remain effective until further order.
The appointments of 52 AAGs, who were appointed on June 12 and October 19 in 2017, will remain in force and the appointments of the AGGs, who were recruited earlier, have been cancelled, the notification said.
Law Minister Anisul Huq on June 26 urged the deputy attorney generals (DAGs) and AAGs, appointed before 2017, to resign from office for new appointment to those offices.
Later on 87 DAGs and AAGs submitted their resignation letters to the president through the attorney general and the law ministry, law ministry sources said.
