100 acres of Teknaf forest torched

Unidentified people set fire to Teknaf reserved forest, adjacent to the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar today.

The fire broke out around 11:00am at 40 places and engulfed nearly two and half kilometer areas from Noor Ahmed Guna of Teknaf Municipality to Naitangpara hill, our Cox’sBazar correspondent reports quoting the officials of Forest Department.

Thousands of trees of different spices, and vegetables fields of over 100 acres of lands were burnned in the fire.Three people suffered burns while extinguishing the blaze, the sources said.       

Two units of firefighters, police and forest departments along with local people brought the blaze under control around 5:00pm, said Pronoy Chakma, assistant commissioner (land) of Teknaf.

A group of miscreants might have set the forest on fire, he said.
