Corruption in masks, PPE procurement: ACC summons Jahid Automobiles owner Shamimuzzaman
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned Shamimuzzaman Kanchan, owner of Jahid Automobiles, to quiz him as he allegedly amassed crores of taka illegally.
According to the summon letter signed by ACC Director Meer Joynul Abedin Shibli, Shamimuzzaman allegedly misused his power in buying and selling low quality masks, personal protective equipment (PPE) and other health equipment during the pandemic.
He was also involved in different irregularities against concerned officers and employees of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and different hospitals, the letter read.
The allegation of corruption and irregularities brought against him is under ACC's investigation, it added.
Following the summon letter, he has to appear before the ACC on September 9 to give his statement over the allegation.
If he fails to appear before the anti-graft body on September 9, the ACC will consider that he has no statement over the issue, the letter added.
While issuing the summon letter yesterday, ACC Director Shibli also issued separate letters asking relevant documents from DGHS and drug administration for fair investigation of the allegation.
