A Pabna village under lockdown
Pabna's Chatmohar upazila administration has put Katakhali village under Dathia Bamongram union under lockdown on Thursday night, due to the rush of returnees from different districts -- mostly from Madaripur -- over the last couple of days.
Local administration along with law enforcers have blocked all four entry and exit roads of the village this morning for the next two weeks, reports our correspondent.
"A total of 65 people living in different districts returned to the village over the last couple of days -- of them 48 came from Madaripur district. When we got the information, we put the entire village on lockdown," said Sarkar Md Raihan, Chatmohar upazila nirbahi officer (UNO).
Additional law enforcers were deployed in the village to ensure the lockdown, the UNO said, adding that this is nothing but a safety measure to prevent community transmission of the viral disease.
"Madaripur is one of the districts with high number of returnees from abroad. Many people from this village work in different upazilas of Madaripur and other districts, and they have returned. We don't know whether any of them is infected with coronavirus, so we have taken this precaution and locked down the village. We have also ordered the returnees to stay in their homes," the UNO said.
No coronavirus case has yet been detected in the village, however.
After announcing the lockdown, police were deployed in the village for blocking the entry and exist points.
"We have closed the four entry and exit points of the village on Friday morning," Sheikh Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chatmohar Police Station, told the Daily Star. Police have been deployed for monitoring the village so that everyone follows the order, he added.
