Coronavirus outbreak: Sylhet’s Golapganj upazila officials to donate Baishakhi allowances
Government officials of Golapganj upazila in Sylhet have decided to donate their Baishakhi allowances in a bid to support the underprivileged local people during the coronavirus outbreak.
After the formal programme of Independence Day, some 20 officials of the upazila came up with the announcement, Mamunur Rahman, upazila nirbahi officer of Golapganj, told The Daily Star.
We have decided to purchase rice, lentils, oil, sugar and some other dry foods for impoverished people who might suffer if the coronavirus situation worsens, he said.
"Twenty officials agreed with the initiative so far. We have already contacted with other government officials and doctors of the upazila to join the cause. Employees of all government offices are also encouraged to donate their Baishakhi allowances," he said.
