Coronavirus outbreak: Nearly 2,000 SC lawyers apply for loans from SCBA
Around 2,000 Supreme Court lawyers have applied for loans from the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) as the association decided to provide interest free loans to its members in need to tackle the financial pressure during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
"Around 2,000 members of the Supreme Court Bar Association have already applied for loans. We are still receiving applications from the members seeking loans. We will scrutinise the applications next week," SCBA President Advocate AM Amin Uddin told The Daily Star today.
Replying to a question, he said the association's executive committee will hold a meeting next week to decide the amount of money to be given to each lawyer.
On April 15, the executive committee at a meeting decided to provide the interest-free loans.
On April 16, SCBA Secretary Barrister MD Ruhul Quddus Kazak told this correspondent that the association decided to provide the loans for three years to those members who are not affluent enough to tackle the (economic) crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
"We have already created a fund of Tk 50 lakh for this purpose," he said.
