Woman assaulted for reporting quarantine violation of UAE returnee in Noakhali
A woman was beaten up by family members of a UAE returnee in Noakhali's Companiganj upazila this afternoon as she allegedly informed police that the returnee was violating home quarantine.
Police detained Omar Faruk Babul (29), brother of the UAE expat, and sent him to jail for his alleged involvement in the incident, our Noakhali correspondent reports quoting police.
The expat returned to his Mohammad Nagar village in the upazila on March 20 and then started visiting his relatives' houses without staying in home quarantine.
On information, police detained the man this afternoon and sent him to a home quarantine set up at Basurhat Municipality building, police and local sources told the correspondent.
Suspecting that the woman informed police in this regard, family members of the UAE returnee assaulted her and she sustained head injuries, Md Rabiul Haque, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Companiganj Police Station said.
The victim lodged a case against two people with the police station in this connection, the OC said.
The victim was given treatment at Companiganj Upazila health complex, he added.
