'Will hang' anyone obstructing oxygen supply: Delhi High Court
The Delhi High Court today said if any official at the central, state, or local administration was obstructing picking up or supply of oxygen, then it would "hang" that person.
The observation by a bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli came during the hearing of a plea by a private hospital in Delhi over shortage of oxygen for critical Covid-19 patients, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
The court told the Delhi state government to give it one instance of who was obstructing the oxygen supply and said, "We will hang that man. we will not spare anyone."
The court ordered the Delhi government to inform the Centre about such officials of the local administration, so the Centre can take action against them.
The high court also asked the Indian government when the 480 tonnes of oxygen per day allocated to Delhi would arrive.
"You (Centre) had assured us (on April 21) that 480 tonnes per day will reach Delhi. Tell us when will it come? The 480 tonnes per day is still to see the light of the day," the court said.
The High Court's remark came after the Delhi government said it was getting only 380 tonnes of oxygen per day over the past few days, and it received only around 300 tonnes on Friday.
Hospitals in Delhi have, for the last few days, complained of an acute shortage of oxygen and its depleting stock, given a massive surge in coronavirus patients.
