Losing both parents to Covid, devastated boy in Lalmonirhat prays for brother hospitalised with virus
"Covid has killed my parents. I've become an orphan," said a distraught 14-year-old Sajjad Hossain.
Sajjad used to live in Saptana Bazar area of Lalmonirhat town with his parents -- both school teachers -- and his brother Saddam Hussein (24).
They lost both parents to Covid-19, 16 days apart.
Sajjad's brother is the latest victim of the ruthless disease and is fighting for his life in the Covid unit of Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
"O Allah, you have taken my parents, but heal my elder brother, return him to me!" said a weeping Sajjad.
Ziaul Haider Mandal Dudul, Sajjad's father, was the headmaster of Dakshin Marandi Government Primary School in Fulbari upazila of neighbouring Kurigram district. Umme Kulsum Happy, Sajjad's mother, was an assistant teacher at Sakoa Government Primary School in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila.
Ziaul was the first in the family to be infected with the virus. He died while fighting the disease at the Covid unit of Rangpur Medical College Hospital on the night of June 8.
Three days after his death, his wife Umme Kulsum fell ill and tested positive. She was admitted to the same hospital where she died on June 24 while undergoing treatment.
Sajjad's mother contracted the virus while taking care of her husband and Sajjad's brother contracted it while taking care of their mother, the boy said while talking to this reporter.
"I don't know what I will do now, coronavirus has snatched my family from me. I don't know how to face this ordeal, I feel helpless," Sajjad sobbed.
