KMCH to get PCR machine for conducting coronavirus tests
Khulna Medical College Hospital is going to receive a PCR machine for conducting tests for coronavirus (Covid-19).
The machine will arrive in a day or two, said Dr Shailendranath Biswas, resident medical officer at the hospital.
A meeting of the hospital's microbiology department was held on preparing to install the machine at the second floor of the hospital building, the RMO said.
SAMPLES OF 3 PERSONS SENT TO DHAKA FOR TEST
Meanwhile, KMCH sent samples from three persons to Dhaka for coronavirus tests on Thursday evening.
"Samples of three persons -- a police official, a school teacher, and the person who died at KMCH surgery unit on Thursday -- have been sent to Dhaka for coronavirus tests," Dr Shailendranath, also the hospital's focal person for Covid-19 management, told our Khulna correspondent.
The test reports were yet to arrive till filing of this report this afternoon.
5 PLACED IN ISOLATION AT KMCH
A total of five persons have been placed in isolation at KMCH and are kept under observation for suspected coronavirus infection.
Samples of two of them have been sent for tests in Dhaka.
Besides, a total 1,726 people, including returnees from India, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Italy, South Korea, and other countries, have been placed in home quarantine in Khulna while 20 are in institutional quarantine.
So far, 119 people have been released from quarantine after they were found with no symptom of coronavirus during the 14-day quarantine period.
Sujat Ahmed, civil surgeon in Khulna district, confirmed the developments to The Daily Star.
Meanwhile, a total 55 beds at 10 hospitals in the district have been prepared for Covid-19 patients, while 210 doctors and 427 nurses will be on duty, said Md Helal Hossain, deputy commissioner of Khulna district.
Medical caregivers have been provided 150 personal protective equipment (PPE) while another 100 PPE were kept in stock, the DC added.
One ambulance is prepared for transporting infected patients and emergency situation, the DC also said, adding that sufficient food grains and other daily necessities are in stock to help the poor in the district.
Authorities are also working to ensure prices of daily essentials are not hiked in the markets, he added.
