Italy-returnee with coronavirus symptoms dies in Bhairab
An Italy-returnee with coronavirus symptoms died at a hospital in Bhairab of Kishoreganj last night, said Civil Surgeon Mujibur Rahman.
He breathed his last at around 11:00pm while he was being taken to a private hospital for medical help, as he was suffering from fever, coughs and respiratory problems since Saturday, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Bulbul Ahmed told The Daily Star.
According to the civil surgeon, the man, aged around 60, returned from Italy on February 28.
He had been staying at home since his return, but he was suffering from flu-like symptoms since Saturday, said the civil surgeon.
He was taken to a local hospital yesterday as he had fever and breathing problems. He was given initial treatment and referred to a private hospital in Bhairab, said the civil surgeon.
But he died on way to the private hospital, he added.
"We have contacted authorities of the local hospital and they are making a list of the staff who came in contact with the deceased," he said.
"Family members of the man have been put in home quarantine today, along with some neighbours too," the civil surgeon added.
Informed, a team of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) visited the spot and collected samples. After getting the report, necessary action will be taken accordingly, the civil surgeon added.
Talking to The Daily Star, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Lubna Farzana said the man lived in Italy with his two sons; he went to visit his family members who live in Jagannathpur Madhyapara of Bhairab municipality area as well.
After his death, the administration has limited the movement of residents of 10 neighbouring houses, the UNO said.
The body, which is still at his house, will be buried under the supervision of local administration, she added.
Confirming the death, Superintendent of Police in Kishoreganj Mashrukur Rahman said, "We are trying to trace the people he had been in contact with and will take necessary measures."
