First coronavirus case confirmed in Sylhet: IEDCR
A doctor in Sylhet today tested positive for coronavirus, making him the first confirmed case in the city.
Dr Premananda Mandal, civil surgeon of Sylhet said the case was confirmed via a call from the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) this evening, reports our Sylhet correspondent.
The 45-year-old doctor was in home quarantine after he started to show symptoms associated with the novel coronavirus. On Saturday, his samples were collected and then sent to IEDCR for testing.
The test came back positive, IEDCR confirmed to the civil surgeon this evening.
Steps are now being taken to lock down his house and the neighbourhood. He will be admitted to a coronavirus isolation centre at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, the civil surgeon added.
The patient has no foreign travel history but he did come in close contact with someone who returned from abroad, the official said.
