Cops recover Tk 59 lakh after 'gunfight' with snatchers
Police recovered Tk 59 lakh after a “gunfight” with alleged snatchers in the capital's New Eskaton area last night.
Liton, 32, an alleged snatcher, is being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital with bullet wounds in his left leg, Shiblee Noman, assistant commissioner (Ramna Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told The Daily Star.
Police claimed raiders on a motorcycle were trying to snatch a carton from other motorcyclists around 9:15pm.
Sensing the presence of the police, the motorcyclists opened fire at them. The police returned fire, said Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station.
Liton was hit by bullets. The others managed to flee the scene, the police official said.
Police also found a carton with Tk 59 lakh at the spot. But nobody claimed to be the owner of the money till 12:30am today, he added.
