Contempt of court rule issued against DSHE chief

The High Court yesterday issued a contempt of court rule against the director general of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education for not complying with its order that directed the DG not to sanction salaries and allowances from the government fund for three private college teachers.
The court issued the rule after Nazrul Islam, principal of Fazlul Haque Women's College, a private institution in Dhaka, filed a contempt of court petition against DG Fahima Khatun.
The HC also issued the rule asking Fahima to explain in three weeks why she should not be punished for being contemptuous of court, said petitioner's counsel Toufiq Inam Tipu.
Tipu in a press release said the HC last October ordered the DG not to sanction salaries  and allowances (the government part) for the teachers as they were appointed illegally.
Though Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on April 24 this year upheld the HC order, Fahima continued sanctioning the money for the teachers.
