The construction of Dhaka-Chittagong four-lane highway will be completed within this year, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader told parliament yesterday.
Replying to lawmakers' queries, Quader said construction works of the Dhaka-Mymensingh four-lane highway would be completed by the first quarter of next year.
So far, 66 percent carpeting of the 190km Dhaka-Chittagong highway has been completed while 98 percent of its earth-filing has finished, he said.
The minister mentioned that there are six mosques in the alignment of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and it is very difficult to remove the mosques. However, he said finally, the authorities of the mosques were agreed to shift those to other places.
Meanwhile, Railways Minister Mujibul Haque yesterday in parliament said the work on preparing detailed design and tender documents for construction of Khulna-Mongla broad- gauge railway line is underway.
He said construction of a railway line from Darsana to Mujibnagar via Damurhuda involving Tk 697.74 crore is waiting for the nod of the government.
