Clashes leave two dead in Bagerhat, Magura
Two people were killed and five other injured as rival groups of villagers clashed in Bagerhat and Magura districts on Saturday night.
Our Bagerhat correspondent reported that two groups of villagers locked in a clash following an altercation between two youths--Muhid and Khalid--of Mollarkul village in Mollahat upazila over playing badminton in the morning.
Murad's father Hafizur and his men attacked the house of Farid Khaki, father of Khalid, while he was holding a meeting with his supporters at around 9:00pm.
Both sides, equipped with lethal weapons, swooped on each other. At one stage, Hafizur opened fire from his licensed gun, leaving a youth dead on the spot.
The deceased was identified as Rubel Kazi, 26, son of Layek Kazi of the village. Police recovered the body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
In Magura, a youth was killed and five others were injured in clash between two groups of people in Mohammadpur upazila on Saturday night, reports our Kushtia correspondent.
The deceased was identified as Azad Sheikh, 35, son of Majed Sheikh of Palla village in the upazila.
Police said two groups of youths from Bhatra and Palla villages locked in an altercation over a trivial matter during the annual sports and cultural programme of Nagripara Dakihil Madrasa at the upazila headquarters.
As a sequel to that, some youths of Bhatra village beat up 4/5 youths of Palla village while they were returning home from the Madrasa playground at around 8:30pm.
Hearing the news, people of Palla village launched an attack on Bhatra village, prompting the people of the village to retaliate.
At least six people from both sides were injured during the clash. Of them, Azad of Palla village succumbed to his injuries at Mohammadpur Upazila Health Complex at around 9:30pm.
The rest of the injured are undergoing treatment at different hospitals and clinics in Magura town.
Both sides filed separate cases with Mohammadpur Police Station.
