Civil aviation mosque imam held with 1.8kg gold
Members of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested the imam of a mosque run by the Civil Aviation authorities along with 18 gold bars and 18,240 US dollars at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital early today.
The arrestee was identified as Aslam Sheikh, imam of Civil Aviation Tower Mosque.
Al-Amin, assistant superintendent of APBn, said a Turkey Airways flight carrying Aslam landed at the airport from Kairo at about 4:45am.
The APBn members challenged him at the concourse hall of the airport when he went there after the end of his arrival formalities.
Later, they found 18 gold bars, weighing 1.8 kilogrammes, and 18,240 US dollars after searching his body.
He brought the gold bars illegally from Egypt, said Al-Amin.
