Youth kills cousin after abduction

The body of an abducted boy was found in a drum of his cousin's room at Bagadi Kandapara village in Araihazar upazila of Narayaganj on Tuesday night.

Police said Maksudul Islam Tuhin, 7, son of Nasir Uddin, went missing while he was playing before their house on Friday. Later, someone demanded Tk 20 lakh as ransom from the victim's father over the phone.  Nasir lodged a general diary with Araihazar Police Station. 

On suspicion, police detained victim's cousin Mahfuzul Islam from Narsindi after he claimed that he was also abducted by the same gang while he was trying to locate the "missing" boy. 

During interrogation, Mahfuzul said he strangled Tuhin, also a student of class II at Khaira Brac School, and dumped the body in the drum in his room over a family feud, Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station, told The Daily Star.  

After the killing, Mahfuzul staged a drama of abduction of the boy and his own to conceal the crime committed by him, said the police official.
