Farhad Mazhar wasn’t abducted: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque today claimed that writer Farhad Mazhar was not abducted but left Dhaka on his own accord.

Based on the information gathered in the primary investigation, it is apparent that Farhad Mazhar “left Dhaka on his own accord” and law enforcers found him on a bus in Jessore when he was on way to home, the IGP said.

The IGP further said that CCTV footage at Khulna New Market and Noorjahan Market revealed that the writer was roaming around there freely between 4:21pm and 6:44pm on July 3.

When asked whether police will take any action against the writer if he made false statement, the IGP said police will observe his physical and mental condition and take necessary steps in this regard.

On July 4, Farhad in a judicial statement before another magistrate said several unidentified men forced him into a microbus and blindfolded him minutes after he came out of his Adabor house to buy medicines in the early hours of July 3.
