Work for speeding up rape trials
Law Minister Anisul Huq has instructed the prosecutors to take necessary steps for quickly hearing and disposing of the rape cases at the lower courts across the country.
“The prosecutors have been asked to take effective steps for speedily hearing and finishing the trial proceedings of the case filed for the rape and killing of Rupa Khatun after the police submit the investigation report to the court. Trial proceedings of any other rape case will also be finished quickly. The prosecutors have been given instruction to this effect,” said Anisul Huq.
Rupa Khatun, a law student was killed after gang-rape in a running bus on August 25.
The law minister was talking to reporters while exchanging Eid greetings at his secretariat office yesterday afternoon.
Anisul said all the cases will be disposed of quickly through due process of law.
Replying to a question, he said the repression on Rohingyas at Rakhaine state in Myanmar is very regretting and the world community should give attention to this.
The United Nations should immediately take steps to stop torture and repression on Rohingyas, the law minister said.
Meanwhile, the Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated peacefully across the country, he added.
Law Secretary ASSM Zahirul Haque Dulal was present on the occasion.
