Woman killed by 'neighbour' in Gaibandha

A woman was killed allegedly by her neighbour following an altercation over irrigation in Singhadanga village under Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha yesterday.

The deceased Shahinur Begum, 45, wife of Rahedul Islam was taking water from a nearby pump for irrigation of her boro field.

At this, the neighbour -- Anar Mia -- resisted her from taking water and an altercation ensued. At one stage, Anar hit Shahinur on the head with a spade killing her on the spot and fled, said police.

Subrota Kumar Sarker, officer-in-charge of Gobindagnaj Police Station, detained Anar's elder brother Chand Mia in this connection.
