Use clean cooking technologies
To reduce air pollution inside homes, speakers at a seminar yesterday urged use of clean cooking technologies by replacing traditional clay cook stoves.
They talked about an array of solutions that include use of modern stoves and elements of healthy cooking, according to a press release.
They were addressing a seminar on “Clean cook stove and renewable energy”, jointly organised by Global Alliance for Clean CookStoves (GACC), and Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) in the capital's Four Points by Sheraton hotel in the capital. The seminar was held as part of a behaviour change campaign to help reduce the harmful impacts of traditional cooking methods in Bangladesh.
Citing a GACC study, the release added 1.7 lakh people die in Bangladesh every year due to exposure to smoke and harmful chemicals from clay stoves.
In 2013, the Bangladesh government developed a Country Action Plan (CAP) with a goal of reaching three crore households with clean cooking solutions by 2030.
Director of GACC Julie Ipe, SREDA Chairman Helal Uddin, and chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on power, energy and mineral resources ministry Tajul Islam MP, also spoke at the seminar.
