Unregistered CNG-run auto-rickshaws banned in Ctg city from today
No unregistered CNG-run auto-rickshaw can ply Chittagong city streets from today, said Masud Ul Hasan, deputy commissioner (traffic-north) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
Dismissing a writ petition, the High Court gave the order on May 21 and also directed CMP commissioner to take actions against all the unregistered CNG-run auto-rickshaws which will operate on the metropolitan roads, Masud added.
Md Harunur Rashid, general secretary of Chattagram Auto-rickshaw Auto-tempo Sramik Union, filed the writ petition in 2013, praying for enrolment of the unregistered vehicles.
At present, around 8,000 unregistered CNG-run auto-rickshaws are plying across the port city while the number of
registered auto-rickshaws is 13,000, said CNG-run Auto-rickshaw Malik Chalak Oikya Parishad's district and city unit President Haider Azam Chowdhury.
The Daily Star ran a story on unregistered CNG-run auto-rickshaws on March 23 in 2015.
