Two killed in Benapole clash
Two people were killed and four others injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over cutting of a fallen tree at Raghunathpur village in Benapole of Jessore yesterday morning.
The dead were Md Abdullah, 52, former member of Bahadurpur Union Parishad; and Shamsur Rahman, 40, son of Khalilur Rahman of Raghunathpur village, said Benapole police Officer in-Charge Apurba Hasan.
Injured Sumon, 23, Asgar Ali, 35, M Abdullah, 35, and Hafizur Rahman, 35, were rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital and Sharsha Burujbagan Hospital.
The OC said the former UP member was attacked by Nasir Uddin, Alauddin and some others with sharp weapons as he asked them not to take away the roadside tree that fell down in a storm.
Following the incident, the two groups clashed on the spot.
Later, police brought the situation under control and arrested two Giasuddin, 45, and Abdur Rahman.
The bodies were sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies.
