Three cops among 10 hurt in Savar clash over land
At least 10 people, including three policemen, were injured in a clash over land dispute in Shempur of Birulia in Savar, outside the capital, on Friday night.
Shahjahan, who sustained bullet injuries in one of his legs, was admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital.
Sub-inspector Emdadul Haque, Assistant Sub-inspector Nayeemul Islam and constable Faysal of Savar Model Police Station; and the other injured including Ismail Hossain were rushed to local hospitals and clinics.
A group led by Mohsin Mondol, brother of Savar Upazila Jubo League convener Selim Mondol, and another led by Ismail, an Awami League supporter and local influential person, with firearms and sticks clashed over the ownership of the land where Lake I Land Ltd, a housing company, is situated, said Officer-in-Charge SM Kamruzzaman.
Mohsin's group is loyal to the company, he said.
When police rushed to the spot, both the groups unified and attacked the law enforcers, leading to another clash in which a police van was also vandalised, he said.
Earlier in the day, the company's Manager Md Kabirul Islam filed a general diary alleging that some people including Ismail and Shahjahan broke down a portion of the boundary wall of their office on Thursday, he added.
SI Emdad sued 72 people including Shahjahan, Mohsin and Ismail over the clash.
