Three arrested over rape of garment worker

Police yesterday arrested three youths in connection with the rape of a garment worker in Mirpur area of the capital.

The arrestees are Rony, 28, Rubel, 30, and Bepari Babu, 30, said Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shah Ali Police Station.

The accused allegedly took the woman to a nearby rickshaw garage while she was returning home from a market in Gudaraghat area of Mirpur-1 on Saturday around 8:30pm, the OC said.

Later, Rony reportedly raped her while his two cohorts assisted him, OC Anwar added.

Law enforcers detained the accused in Gudaraghat area after the victim filed a case against the three on Saturday night with the police station, the police official said.

Medical test of the victim was conducted at Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday morning, said Sub-Inspector Atikur Rahman, also investigation officer of the case.

A Dhaka court later sent the three accused to jail after they were produced before it, SI added.
