Sylhet transport, shop workers' clash injures 15

Fifteen people were injured during a clash between shop workers and transport workers in Kalighat area of Sylhet city yesterday.

Witnesses and police said the workers logged into an altercation over parking of a truck in front of a shop on Thursday noon. Following the incident a clash ensued between them in the afternoon.

Manik Miah, publicity secretary of Sylhet Truck Workers' Union, claimed shop workers vandalised 30 trucks for a trifle matter.

However, Liton Miah, general secretary of Labour Welfare Association of Kalighat, said truck labours attacked them first and trying to impose responsibility on them after vandalised their own trucks.

Police fired four blank shots and tear shells to control the situation, said Sohel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
