Suranjit seeks security of life from JS Speaker
Awami League senior lawmaker Suranjit Sengupta last night requested the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad to give security to his life.
Speaking on a point of order in the parliament, Suranjit said a vested quarter had been spreading propaganda against him on Facebook, saying he advocated for locking all mosques and madrasas in the country in a bid to tackle militancy.
“I never made such comments anywhere. I don't know who are spreading the propaganda. I am feeling insecure at present fearing that bigots may sever my head,” he said.
“I didn't file any general diary with any police station to this end. I am now standing in parliament, which has the highest authority. I urge the honourable Speaker to ensure my protection. You are the protector of MPs. I seek protection from you.”
Suranjit also demanded that Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal reveal who were engaged in the smear campaign against him and what their motive was. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhurydid not say anything in reply. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was also present in the House at that time.
