SC to observe Dec 18 as ‘Supreme Court Day’

The Supreme Court authorities today decided to observe the “Supreme Court Day” on December 18 every year.

The authorities took the decision at a full court meeting of the SC with Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, who is performing the functions of the chief justice, in the chair at the Supreme Court Judges Lounge this afternoon.

All the judges of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the SC attended the meeting.

In the meeting, the SC authorities also decided to assign Barrister Md Saifur Rahman, special officer of the High Court Division, to deal with and speak to the media.

After the full court meeting, Barrister Md Saifur Rahman, special officer of the High Court Division, told reporters that the SC authorities decided to observe “the Supreme Court Day” on December 18 every year, as the SC had started its first judicial functions on December 18 as per the constitution of the republic after its independence.

Besides, this year’s “Supreme Court Day” will be observed on January 2 next year, as the court has earlier been scheduled to remain on its annual vacation on December 18 this year, he added.
