Sitakunda 'militant couple' on fresh remand
A Chittagong court yesterday placed an alleged militant couple on a fresh remand for five days each in a case filed under Anti-Terrorism Act.
Jasim alias Jahirul Islam and Arzina alias Rajia Sultana were arrested in a militant hideout in Sitakunda upazila on March 15.
The court passed the order after Sitakunda police produced them before it seeking a 15-day remand for each of them, said court inspector Moshiur Rahman.
According to police, Jasim had rented two houses -- “Sadhon Kutir” and “Chhayaneer” -- in Sitakunda by showing the landlords fake NIDs.
On March 15, police raided “Sadhon Kutir” and arrested the couple with a pistol, grenades and explosives. After gleaning information from them, the law enforcers came to know about another den “Chhayaneer”.
Following the day, four militants and a child were killed at “Chhayaneer” during a police operation.
On March 17, police filed a case under Anti-Terrorism Act and another for possessing arms and explosives with Sitakunda station in the Sadhon Kutir incident.
In the Chhayaneer incident, they filed a case the same day on the charge of the murder, and another under the Anti-Terrorism Act in which they were remanded yesterday.
Earlier on March 17, the court put Jasim and Arzina on a 12-day remand each in the two cases filed over the “Sadhon Kutir” incident, said court sources.
