Sirajganj sees six deaths in three accidents

Fourteen people including a father and his two sons were killed and 44 others injured in road accidents in eight districts yesterday and on Friday.

In Sirajganj alone, three separate accidents claimed six lives.

At Hatikumrul intersection of the district, where Sadar, Kamalkhan and Solonga upazilas meet, Rawsan Ali, 40, and his sons Siam, 7, and Tanim, 3, were run over by a loaded truck last night while crossing the road.

In Kazipur upazila, two people were killed and 15 others injured early yesterday as a bus fell into a ditch after the driver lost his control over the vehicle.

One of the deceased is bus helper Mrinal Chadra Roy, 35. The identity of the other deceased, aged around 40, could not be known immediately.

In Sirajganj Sadar, a union parishad chairman was killed when a bus hit his motorbike on Nalka-Shialkole road yesterday.

Amirul Islam, 40, was chairman of Naogaon Union Parishad in Tarash upazila.

In Lalmonirhat, a truck driver and a boy were killed as the truck ran into a roadside tree in Hatibandha upazila yesterday noon.

Truck driver Lokaman Hossain, 46, of Bogra was trying to save a pedestrian on the road, but ended up running over the boy, Parvez Islam, 9, son of Hasan Ali of Purbo Bisondoi village, said police.

In Bogra, a man was killed as a rice-laden truck fell on an auto-rickshaw beside Bogra-Natore road after a culvert collapsed while the truck was crossing it in Shajahanapur upazila yesterday.

The deceased is auto-rickshaw driver Jalal Uddin, 40, of the area.

A man -- sitting in a nearby shop -- was injured.

In Gazipur, an employee of Dutch Bangla Bank Ltd was killed as a covered-van rammed his motorcycle while taking a U-turn in MC Bazar area of Sreepur upazila yesterday.

The deceased is Monir Hossen Molla, 24, of Kortopa village in the upazila.

In Gopalganj Sadar, a man was killed and four others were injured when a three-wheeler collided head-on with a truck on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Betgram area on Friday.

The deceased is Porimol Biswas, 50, of Kalargati village under the upazila. He was the passenger of the three-wheeler.

In Dinajpur, a seven-year-old boy was killed as a pickup-van hit him while he was crossing the Phulbari-Mithapukur road in Harirampur village of Parbatipur upazila yesterday.

The deceased is Md Mostakim, son of Forhad Mondal of Munsipara village under the upazila.

In Jessore Sadar, a motorcyclist was killed and his co-rider injured as a bus hit their motorcycle in Satmile area yesterday noon.

The deceased is Shohel Rana, 30, of Goherdanga village.

Seriously wounded Sujon Sikder, 28, of the area was admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital.

In Faridpur Sadar, a man was killed when a bus hit a pickup truck on Dhaka-Khulna Highway at Kanaipur on Friday.

The deceased is truck driver Hanif Mia, 25.

In Madhukhali upazila of the district, around 23 people were injured as a bus hit a tree beside the Dhaka-Khulna highway as the driver lost his control over the vehicle in Bowalia area yesterday.

They were rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Following the incident, agitated locals blocked the highway for two hours, said police.
