Shyamal's case sent to session judge's court
The bribery case against headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhakta was sent to the session judge's court in Narayanganj from the magistrate court for trial yesterday.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Aftab Uddin passed the order after hearing the case.
Sakhawat Hossain, a lawyer for Shyamal Kanti, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Narayanganj, said Shyamal appeared before the court.
According to the statement of the case, filed by Morsheda Begum, an English teacher of the school, Shyamal took Tk 1.35 lakh as bribe from Morsheda with false promises of enlisting her in the monthly pay order (MPO) system.
On May 13 last year, Shyamal was assaulted by a mob over an allegation that he made derogatory comments about religion while meting out corporal punishment to a student. The teacher has been rejecting the allegation.
Salim Osman, lawmaker from Narayanganj-5, was then seen making Shyamal hold ears and do squats in public, sparking outrage across the country.
