'Sexual harassment' by headteacher protested

Students and guardians in Moulvibazar on Thursday protested the incident of sexual harassment of a female student by the headmaster of a school in the district on Monday.

Human chains were formed and processions were brought out in Fultola area where the school -- Babul Ahmed Babul High School -- is located. Students of the school also boycotted classes in protest.

The protesters demanded exemplary punishment of the headmaster Jamal Uddin Selim.

“Since Jamal Uddin took the responsibility of the school in 2008, students complained about being sexually harassed by him. They fear of going to school," the protesters said.

After Monday's incident, the student filed a complaint with Juri Police Station the next day. Since the incident surfaced, the headmaster went into hiding.

Jalal Uddin, officer-in-charge of the station, visited the school on Thursday.
