Seven honoured posthumously
Seven peacekeepers from Bangladesh, who sacrificed their lives while serving in UN peacekeeping missions across the world in recent times, were honoured along with 211 military, police and civilian personnel of various troops contributing countries at UN Headquarters in New York on Wednesday.
The names of the seven Bangladeshi peacekeepers -- Lance Corporal Md Narzul Islam, Private Nilkanth Hajong, Constable Motaher Hosen, Constable Mohammed Samidul Islam, Sub-inspector Moinul A Khan, Lance Corporal Md Mozibor Rahman and Sergeant Islam Md Shahidul -- were pronounced during an annual memorial service. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon paid tribute to the 211 UN staff sacrificing their lives between January 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016, according to a UN press statement. Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Masud Bin Momen and Security Adviser to UN AKM Akhteruzzaman were present.
