Security at Shaheed Minar beefed up for tomorrow
Rapid Action Battalion yesterday took steps to provide security surrounding the capital's Central Shaheed Minar ahead of International Mother Language Day
on February 21, said Rab Director General Benazir Ahmed.
Rab patrol teams and dog squads are working and check posts have been set up there so that the public can feel safe while going there amid the ongoing blockade, he added.
The Rab DG was speaking to the media on the Shaheed Minar premises after visiting the area.
Rab also set up a control room near the Shaheed Minar, he said, adding that its members both in uniform and plainclothes would be on duty round the clock.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police will restrict the movement of vehicles without the security pass, given by Dhaka University for the period between 9:00pm today and 2:00pm Saturday for Shaheed Minar and its surrounding area, said Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia at the DMP media centre. Replying to a question whether the BNP chairperson will visit the Shaheed Minar, he said none contacted them in this regard.
But any political party or socio-cultural organisation, who will visit the Shaheed Minar to pay tributes to the language martyrs, will be given the highest security, he added.
