Science on mind

Around 15,000 students yesterday took an oath to build a “scientifically-minded nation” imbued with the spirit of the Liberation War.

They made the pledge at a programme styled "Muktir Uthsab-2018" organised for the 17th time by Liberation War Museum on the central playground of Dhaka University.

Students, mostly from different schools and colleges in and outside the capital, joined the programme that began with the national anthem and hoisting of the national flag.

Later, a discussion on the Liberation War was held where the museum's Trustee Sarwar Ali stressed the need for grooming the youth with the Liberation War spirit to prevent them from getting involved in criminal activities and drug addiction.

Fiction writer Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal said, “Nobody can stop you, if you work hard to educate yourself properly.”

About the question paper leak spree, he said the students who studied thoroughly rather than opting for leaked questions are selected for admission in every renowned educational institution.

But, those who passed the exams with good marks but with the help of leaked questions will suffer in the long run, added the eminent educationist who teaches at the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. He also urged the youths to stand against the question leak.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said the government is taking initiatives to stop the malpractice.

Freedom fighters and martyrs' family members attended the programme among others.

Freedom fighter Lt Col (retd) Abu Osman Chowdhury administered the oath.

Later, a cultural show was held where the band “Joler Gaan”, and singers Ferdous Ara and Bappa Mazumder performed.
