SCBA demands specialised treatment for Khaleda
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) yesterday demanded the government to immediately send BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to United Hospital for her treatment.
“Khaleda Zia, the chief of BNP, a greater democratic political party, has been the prime minister of the country three times. She has a right to get her desired treatment,” SCBA President Zainul Abedin said.
He was speaking at a press conference at the SCBA auditorium in Dhaka yesterday afternoon.
Advocate Zainul said the lawyers are anxious about the health of Khaleda Zia.
However, the SCBA president disagreed with Khandker Mahbub Hossain, one of Khaleda's lawyers, about her release on parole.
Zainul, also a vice chairman of BNP, categorised the statement by Khandker Mahbub Hossain over the release of Khaleda Zia on parole as a “personal opinion”.
Earlier on Wednesday, Khandker Mahbub, a senior lawyer for Khaleda, urged the government to release her from jail on parole on humanitarian ground for her better treatment.
“Since Khaleda has been imprisoned for over four months, her health has deteriorated and an apprehension has been created over her life. It is also not possible to release her quickly from jail through legal process, as both the Appellate and High Court Divisions and the lower courts are now closed due to Eid-ul-Fitr holidays,” Advocate Khandker Mahbub said.
SCBA Secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon also spoke.
