Save Bangshi River from encroachment, pollution
Students from 14 secondary schools yesterday urged the government to save the river Bangshi in Savar from grabbing and pollution.
They made the call at an experience sharing meeting “Sharing of Lessons Learned among Stakeholders”, organised by the Training Research Education for Empowerment (TREE), at Sheikh Hasina Jatiya Jubo Kendra, Savar.
Bangladesh National Commission for Unesco Joint Secretary Md Manjur Hosen was present as the chief guest with TREE Chairman Shahid Mallik in the chair.
Under “Bangladesh Sustainable Development Learning Project: Saving River Bangshi in Savar through Involvement of Students and Community Empowerment, initiated by TREE and financed by Unesco, around 300 students of the schools have been campaigning for creating awareness about protection of the river since June.
Under “Green Club”, formed to conduct the movement, they visit the riverbank areas, meet people, take snaps and upload those on a blog “Green Tree Club” with articles.
