Robber killed in 'shootout' with cops

An alleged robber died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital yesterday after he was injured in a “shootout” with police at Banshbaria of Sitakunda upazila in Chittagong on Monday night.

The deceased Nazim Uddin Chowdhury, 35, of the upazila was accused in several cases, said police.

On information, police conducted a drive around 10:30pm when Nazim and his gang were taking preparation to commit robbery, said police.

Sensing police presence the gang started firing prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, police added.

Nazim was injured and his cohort Diderul Alam, 25, was arrested. A pistol, a light gun and four bullets were recovered from the spot.
