Road crashes kill three, injure five
Three people, including a cop and a woman, were killed and five others injured in road accidents in four districts yesterday and on Thursday.
Our Mymensingh correspondent reports, a woman was killed and her husband and daughter were injured as a battery-run auto-rickshaw carrying them collided head on with another battery-run auto-rickshaw in Doarikona area of Kalmakanda upazila in Netrokona yesterday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Salma Akhtar, 28.
Police said the incident occurred when Salma with her husband Rafiqul Islam of Kalikapur village in the district and 12-year-old daughter Rozina Akhter were going to Kalmakanda upazila to visit their relatives.
They were taken to Kalmakanda Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition where Salma died. Salma's husband and daughter are undergoing treatment there.
Our staff correspondent from Chittagong reports, a police constable was killed as a lorry hit him on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Banshbaria area under Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong on Thursday night.
The deceased was Bahar Uddin, 22, of Noakhali. He was a constable at Sitakunda Police Station.
Bahar was critically injured after being hit by the lorry while he was crossing the highway to arrest an accused, said Yusuf Gazi, an Assistant Sub-inspector of the police station.
He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared him dead, said Nayek Hamidur Rahman of CMCH Police Camp.
Our Dinajpur correspondent reports, a motorcyclist was killed as a speeding truck hit his vehicle on the Dinajpur-Bogra highway in Chuniapara area of Dinajpur town on Thursday evening.
The deceased was Khokan Mia, 32, of Mudipara area under Dinajpur Municipality area.
Our Pirojpur correspondent reports, three people were injured as a microbus of mobile operator Banglalink hit a roadside tree after one of its wheels got damaged in Hetalia village under Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur yesterday morning.
The injured are driver of the vehicle Hasan, 28, of Barisal and two employees of Banglalink Al-Amin, 32, and Miraj, 32. They hailed from Khulna, said Bhandaria Police Station sources.
Hasan was sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and other two were given treatment at Bhandaria Upazila Health Complex.
