Road crashes kill seven, injure 61

Seven people were killed and 61 others injured in road accidents in six districts yesterday and on Friday.

In Mymensingh, a pickup van driver was killed when his vehicle collided head-on with a bus on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Kathali area of Bhaluka upazila yesterday morning.

The deceased is Rubel Hossain, 30, of Shariatpur.

In another accident in the upazila, an identified woman aged about 50 was killed as a bus ran her over while she was crossing the highway in Masterbari area on Friday night, said Sergeant Johirul Islam, in-charge of Bhaluka Highway Police.

In Dinajpur Sadar, a person was killed and 25 others were injured as a Rangpur-bound bus skidded off the Dinajpur-Rangpur highway in Basherhat area yesterday.

The deceased is Kumod Chandra Roy, 48, of Talpukur village under Chirirbandar upazila of the district.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in the district.

In Kaharol upazila of Dinajpur, 15 passengers of a bus were injured when the vehicle collided head-on with a truck in Rampur village yesterday.

In Gopalganj, a bus helper was killed and 20 people were injured when a Dhaka-bound bus fell into a ditch beside Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Poraton Muksudpur area under Muksudpur upazila on Friday night.

The deceased is Dulal Hossan, 32, of Doskhin Jonjunia  village in Pirojpur.

The injured were admitted into different hospitals in the district, said police.

In Manikganj, a local Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader who was injured in a road accident on Thursday died at Dhaka Pongu Hospital in the capital on Friday evening.

Abir Bepari, education secretary of Ghior upazila unit of BCL, was injured seriously as a truck hit his motorcycle on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Teppra under Shivalaya upazila of Manikganj on Thursday afternoon.

He was rushed to Manikganj Sadar Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Pangu Hospital where he died.

Abir, of Beparipara village under Ghior upazila, was a student of Ghior Government Degree College.

In Rajbari Sadar, a man was killed as his motorcycle collided head-on with a microbus on Rajbari-Kushtia road in Durgapur area on Friday.

The deceased Abdul Hannan, 40, of Doskhin Mul village in Kushtia was an employee of Rajbari Deputy Commissioner office. He was going to his workplace from home, said police.

In Narayanganj, a motorcyclist was killed and his co-rider injured as a truck hit his vehicle in Kanchan Pourashava Nolpoth area of Rupganj upazila yesterday.

The deceased is Rafiul Islam Rubel, 24, of Jamalpur.
