Five killed, 11 hurt in road accidents
Five people, including a cop, were killed and 11 others injured in road accidents in four districts yesterday and on Monday.
In Savar, an on-duty cop was killed as a bus hit him on Dhaka-Aricha highway near Vakurta police check post on Monday night.
The deceased Abdus Sobur, 48, was a habildar at Dhaka police lines. He hailed from Pathalea under Dhamari upazila in Dhaka.
He was rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
In Gazipur, two people were killed and 11 others injured as a bus hit a truck which was parked beside the road in Joina Bazar area of Sreepur upazila yesterday.
Of the deceased one was identified as Sharmin, 29. The identity of the other -- a teenage boy -- could not be known immediately.
In Panchagarh Sadar, a woman was killed as a pick-up van hit her on Panchagarh-Tentulia highway in Jagdal village yesterday.
The deceased was Ramicha Begum, 45, of Goalpara village in the upazila. She died on the spot.
Soon after the incident locals intercepted the van and detained its driver. Later, the driver was handed over to police.
In Dinajpur, a motorcyclist was killed as a truck hit his vehicle on Dinajpur-Thakurgaon highway in Birganj upazila on Monday night. The deceased was Babu Roy, 22, of Durlabpur village in the upazila. He died on the spot.
