Road accidents claim 6 lives in 3 districts
Six people were killed and nine others injured in road accidents in Chittagong, Chapainawabganj and Bogra yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.
Two persons were killed and five others injured as a bus and a microbus collided head-on on Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway in Nayakhal area of Satkania in Chittagong.
Forkan, 29, from Satkania upazila; and Nasrin Sultana, 25, from Patia upazila, died on the spot, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dohazari Highway Police Outpost.
Police seized the bus of which driver fled, he said.
The injured were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said Alauddin Talukder, an assistant sub-inspector of CMCH Police Camp. Meanwhile, a covered van hit a motorcycle in Banur Bazar area of Sitakunda, leaving motorcyclist Masud Rana, 30, dead on the spot, said Inspector Ahsan Habib of Fouzdarhat Highway Police Outpost.
In Panchagarh, construction worker Tabibar Rahman, 70, was killed as a truck hit him while he was going to Panchagarh Bazar by riding a bicycle on Panchagarh-Banglabandha highway in Sadar upazila.
Locals detained the bus but the driver managed to escape.
In Chapainawabganj, a woman aged around 25 died as a covered van ran her over in Pukuria area of Shibganj upazila.
Police said her identity could not be known immediately.
In Bogra, Abdul Jobbar, 45, was killed and four others were injured in a head-on collision between a microbus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Chakbachai area of Gabtali.
The injured were taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.
