Rights activists concerned over growing incidents of child rape
Different human rights organisations including Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) yesterday expressed grave concern over the growing incidents of child rape across the country in recent times.
At a protest rally at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital, speakers demanded that the government take effective measures to prevent violence against children.
They mentioned that 99 children became victims of rape in the last three months all over the country. Of them, 20 children were killed after rape. Such disgraceful violation of child rights cannot be acceptable, they added.
Violence against women and children has reached a new height due to the culture of impunity, said MJF Executive Director Shaheen Anam at the protest rally.
The government should identify reasons behind the growing rape incidents and ensure the security of women and children through taking effective measures, she added.
Shaheen Anam stressed the need for a united effort to prevent such violence against women and children.
Twenty-two human rights organisations joined the rally.
