Rickshaw-van puller beaten to death for loan default

A rickshaw-van puller was allegedly beaten to death during a local arbitration at Dendabor in Ashulia, outside the capital, on Tuesday night only because he could not repay a loan of Tk 2,000 in time.

Some 10 people beat Md Moinuddin, 26, of Sherpur, and his friend Morshed Ali with iron rods and sticks soon after they attended the arbitration, said the case filed in this regard.

The lender, Rafiqul Islam, fish trader, took the matter to the arbitration which is run by “Jubo League activists”, said locals.

Police said the 10 accused are absconding. Morshed was admitted to Habib Clinic.
