Return Tk 25cr to Basic Bank

The Supreme Court (SC) yesterday directed Syed Mozaffar Hossain, a businessman, to return Tk 25 crore to BASIC Bank within two months in a case filed over misappropriation of Tk 63 crore from the bank.

Upon his failure to return the money within the stipulated time, the court will cancel his bail granted by the HC, the directive added.

Chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order on Tuesday following a leave-to-appeal petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) challenging Mozaffar's bail.

Justice Hasan Foez Siddique also sent the leave-to-appeal petition to the full bench of the Appellate Division for its hearing on July 15, ACC's lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said.

The anti-graft watchdog filed the case in Chittagong on January 10 this year against Mozaffar and two others for misappropriating Tk 63 crore from BASIC Bank.
